AN UNUSUAL WORKSHOP

Co-Creative Science for Self-Health Care, Bodyworkers

and Other Health-Care Providers

This Workshop on Co-Creative Science  is concerned  with planetary healing, how this healing can be accomplished, and how all health care provided in a co-creative partnership with nature and the White Brotherhood is planetary healing.

"Bodywork, under whatever banner it is conducted, is the most important work to be done on the planet today. When you work with your own or another's body, you are working directly with the fabric of the planetary body as well. For what is the earth but the sum of all the forms of life dwelling within and upon her vast and beautiful body? Does this inspire you? I hope so, for your work, your bodywork, offered to one body at a time, is a direct contribution to global well-being." (Bodywork as a means of planetary healing by A. K. Levian. In Massage. Issue 45. Page 4. Sept/Oct 1993). Co-creative science enables us to do planetary healing while we provide health care for ourselves and others.

We are all bodyworkers whether we take care of ourselves or arrange for others to take care of us. In either case, we can benefit from taking advantage of the unique advantages that co-creative science offers. For reasons which will become obvious, co-creative science  is very different than holistic health care involving body, mind, and spirit. However, the two are not mutually exclusive. Holistic health practitioners can work with co-creative science.

This short announcement of a workshop cannot adequately convey the importance of co-creative science for bodywork. This importance is not surprising because, according to the Overlighting Deva of Perelandra, "There is need for ...  a ... conscious ... co-creative partnership  in every endeavor of humans on Earth — there must be partnership in order for the new processes [that are needed] to be both developed and implemented." If bodywork is intimately associated with healing our planet, the major undertaking must be counteracting the global devastation of  nature. This devastation is so serious that it now threatens the survival of man. Co-creative science is the only  means available for effectively counteracting the global devastation of nature. Consequently, the survival of man now requires that we work in a co-creative partnership with nature and the White Brotherhood.

This and the following information is quoted from Machaelle Small Wright's book MAP: The Co-Creative White Brotherhood Medical Assistance Program. She is also the author of the book Behaving as if the God in All Life Mattered.

The White Brotherhood is a part of the Family of Man that lives on other levels and in other dimensions of reality. People at Findhorn believed that "the Order of Melchizedek was part of the Brotherhood, and it is from this group that all the major religious leaders … who have been part of our history… have come."  Jesus is a member of the White Brotherhood.

Machaelle Small Wright sees the Brotherhood "operating in a co-creative role with us on this planet. They design and infuse purpose and direction into the frameworks of social order  through which we on Earth move in order to learn, experience, and evolve. In essence, they create the schools through which we move. We call these schools religion, governmental structures, educational schools, philosophy, science . . . all those massive social frameworks with which we associate and within which we function."

Nature is one of many  consciousnesses, each with its own area of expertise, which function on all levels and dimensions of reality throughout the universe. This means that when we work in a co-creative partnership with nature and with members of the White Brotherhood, we are collaborating with intelligences that are far more knowledgeable and competent than we are. Consequently, we can work much more effectively in that kind of partnership than we can alone

Working in a co-creative partnership which we consciously  establish with nature is very different than what most people do when they say they are "working with nature". Although nature includes but is not limited to nature spirits, working in a co-creative partnership with nature does not involve the supernatural. There is nothing more natural than nature. Our doing certain things without working in a co-creative partnership with nature is an attempt to be supernatural.

Let us now return to bodywork. Our material bodies, which we see, tell us what we are (made of). Our subtle energy bodies, which we do not see, tell us who we are. Some chemical elements of our material bodies came from the stars eons age. To that extent, we are literally made of star dust. Our subtle energy fields now reconnect us with the stars.

Our energy fields which are our  thoughts and feelings (i.e., hopes, despair, love, frustration, anger, intent, satisfaction, fulfillment, disappointment, etc.) go throughout the universe, like radio waves and magnetic fields do. In this way, we unconsciously  affect the universe. However, we can consciously affect the universe by working in a co-creative partnership with nature and the White Brotherhood. Bodyworkers, who work in that kind of co-creative partnership, are contributing to healing our planet by creating interconnecting energy-balanced environments. They are also helping the universe move from the Piscean to the Aquarian dynamic.

SOME COMMENTS ON SPIRITUALITY*

Spirituality Can Exist Independently of Religion

"The important point to remember is that spirituality is not necessarily a function of religion, and does not have to be tied to any religion. To conceive of  intrinsic human  meaning as sui generis, as irreducible to things  economic or physical; furthermore to take care of this meaning, not only in your own life but in the lives of others, is to exercise responsibility within a spiritual framework. Therefore, you can he a secular humanist, or even an athiest and act within a framework of spirituality - although usually it is a difficult act; at times a collapsing act; as the intrinsic human meaning needs justification which goes beyond the concept of man as the measure of all things. The saying that 'the root of man is man himself' (Marx) does not give us very deep roots. Our roots stretch beyond man - to embrace the cosmos.

"Spirituality is not an expression of romantic nostalgia for the things of the past, for religion of the past; nor is it a spurious superficial trapping, empty ritual connected with things unseen and unimportant; spirituality is a vessel within which the most important characteristics of human beings as human  are contained, and through which they are perpetuated. Spirituality is a safeguard of not only the sanctity of life that we consider sacred, but also of the very life itself.

"Unless you have reverence for life, you cannot have dignity and grace. And unless you have dignity and grace, you cannot have meaning in life. Graceless life, deprived of dignity, is not one that can be meaningful. Spirituality provides the means and the framework within which transcendental aspirations of man, grace, dignity, reverence for life, all reside. Those characteristics are the ones which are indispensable for life endowed with meaning. Consequently, spirituality conceived as a vessel containing the most precious attributes of human existence is a necessary condition of a meaningful life. In short, life endowed with meaning is one that always embraces some dimensions of spirituality. If such is the case, then spirituality is a rational expression of the human condition. Spirituality is a state of  mind; really a state of being. In this state, we experience the world as if it were endowed with grace because we are then ourselves endowed with grace."

HOLY LAUGHTER

The Serious Humor of Albert Schatz Who Believes

"It's … a pity we can't go to market and buy … a big chunk of … humor just as … we buy a package of yeast. They [both] do about the same kind of  job; yeast gives lightness, pleasant texture and taste to bread; … humor works to lighten the heavy seriousness of our daily living, and smooths out the rough spots in our communication with each other." (One at a Time in  Al-Anon. Al-Anon  Family Group Headquarters, Inc. New York  City. 1989) The Spiritual Massage Ministry Newsletter will publish some of  Albert's massage humor because humor can be both spiritual and healing.

Albert is a world-famous scientist as well as a humorist and a humorologist. (A humorologist is someone who studies humor, just as a biologist studies biology.) He became interested in humor in religion, especially humor in the Bible, when he learned that "wit … "has been studied … as a special expression of the spirituality of man." (Creativity. The Magic Synthesis by Silvano Arieti (Basic Books, New York. 1976).  He then read Salvation by Laughter. A Study of Religion and the Sense of Humor  by Dudley Zuver (Harper & Brothers. New York. 1933), and Holy Laughter. Essays on Religion in the Cosmic Perspective  by M. Conrad Hyers. (The Seabury Press. New York. 1969).

Albert became  interested in how laughter contributes to good health when he heard someone describe laughter as internal massage because hearty laughter manipulates a person's internal organs. One hundred years ago, J. H. Kellogg, M.D., listed 10 procedures for Massage of the Liver. The last procedure was a "laughing exercise consisting of the syllable 'ha' uttered in an explosive way, and up and down the scale." (The Art of Massage. Its Physiological Effects and Therapeutic Applications. Modern Medicine Publishing Company. Battle Creek. Michigan. 1895).

"They said I'd be dead in six months… They told me it would only get worse… They told me I would just have to live with it… They said there was nothing more they could do for me." Weil believes, these "statements are particularly disturbing, because they reflect deep pessimism about the human potential for healing. At its most extreme, this attitude constitutes a kind of medical 'hexing' that I find unconscionable." He considers this "so-called voodoo death " to be "the ultimate example of a negative placebo effect."

For several years, Albert was a stand-up comic when he lectured at scientific and other meetings where serious matters, such as cancer, were being seriously discussed. He is therefore an artist whose medium is humor. Artists see the world differently than most of us do. Albert's humor  reveals that he has a different kind of vision. It also tells us a lot more. It tells us who he is, that he knows who he is, and that he likes who he is. That's why, when he shares his humor, he shares himself. His humor also shows that he respects people because he never makes fun of anyone. Finally, his humor reveals that he enjoys life and wants others to enjoy life also. Because he enjoys his humor, he laughs with people. He is not a straight-face comedian.

When the participants at one of his Therapeutic Touch workshops decided to evaluate his humor, they drew up the following questions: How is Albert's humor unique? How is his humor an important component of how he teaches?  How do you react to his humor; what does it mean to you and how does it affect you? How does it help you learn? What have you learned from his humor? What spiritual aspects does his humor have? How do you relate to one another when you all laugh together? Does shared laughter help bring you all together? Does the family who laughs together stay together? How does your humor compare to Albert's humor? 

Finally, I want to point out that humor and healthy laughter are not necessarily related to tickling. When someone tickles your fancy, he does not touch you physically, but you laugh if what that person says is humorous. However, tickling by touching may be pernicious. One certainly does not enjoy being tickled to death. Douglas Graham, M.D., pointed that out forty-three years ago  in his book Manaul Therapeutics. A Treatise on Massage. Its History, Mode of Application and Effects. (J. B. Lippincott Company. Philadelphia. 1902):

"Dr. T. Lauder Brunton tells us that one of the most painful experiences of his life was that of being tickled to death by a nurse when he was a small boy. He can never forget the agony of  it. This lead him to believe the statement that Simon de Montfort, during the persecution of the Albigeneses, put several of them to death by tickling the soles of their feet with a feather. The neurons may have become so tightly interlocked that they could not let go. Perhaps something of the same kind occurs in tetanus."

The Reese Institute, Inc., School of Massage Therapy in Oviedo, Florida, has initiated a unique research project.
